Cheers to the Flockin’ Weekend:
Art by Cristina Carolina Echezarreta

A drive-through art installation on view May 5-10, 2020 at Creature Comforts (2:00-8:00 PM daily, weather permitting)

Presented by Get Artistic in celebration of the year-round launch of our beloved Automatic beer, Creature Comforts is featuring artist Cristina Carolina Echezarreta in a one-week-only pop-up art installation in our drive-through! Originally from Miami, Florida, Echezarreta is currently based in Athens where she has just earned her Master of Fine Arts from the University of Georgia. Cheers to the Flockin’ Weekend is part of a larger body of work evoking Floridian nostalgia, complete with vintage postcard kitsch and flora and fauna of the Everglades. According to the artist, “The work deals with the natural and artificial as it exists in Florida’s rapidly changing landscape. I am interested in recalling and responding to the past, while also setting that nostalgia within a tropical region and Art Deco palette.” The flamingos in this installation are hand-sewn using reclaimed fabrics such as beach towels. Layering, collaging, and repurposing materials manifest the values of place, time, and community in the artist’s work. Alongside our Automatic release on May 5, we hope this art installation inspires a little creativity, love for your community, and visions of sunny days ahead!

Did you know? Creature Comforts’ downtown Athens taproom and brewery are housed in a 1940’s warehouse. Originally built as a Chevy dealership, the building became home to the family-owned Snow Tire Company for several decades until Creature Comforts moved in. We Creatures still affectionately refer to the building as “Snow Tire”! Automatic is an homage to Creature Comforts’ first home, both with respect to Snow Tire’s automotive history as well as the art, culture, and community of Athens. The slogan for nearby Weaver D’s soul food restaurant, “Automatic for the People”, inspired the name for the famous R.E.M. album—two incredible influences on Athens’ history.
