This is a hard, confusing, and uncertain time. But with everything going on, we want to continue to show up for our Get Comfortable agency partners.
We’ll be totally honest: We’re still figuring out what that looks like as our taproom doors remain closed and activities suspended until further notice. What we do know is that, in the past month, our daily routines have been disrupted completely, and this is especially true for each of our Get Comfortable agencies.
Whether it’s volunteering your time, offering financial support, or writing an encouraging note, there are many ways to assist the organizations serving Athens’ and DeKalb’s most vulnerable populations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Here’s how you can help support some of our 2020 Get Comfortable partners directly during this unprecedented season:
Acceptance Recovery Center (Athens)
Many individuals receiving treatment and housing at Acceptance Recovery Center are experiencing extreme hardship being out of work. ARC has launched a crowd-funding campaign on behalf of its residents to help cover the cost of program fees ($220/week for men and $180/week for females). Additionally, food donations are welcome. Contact Brandy Anderson to schedule a time to drop off food donations.
Athens Area Homeless Shelter (Athens)
The Athens Area Homeless Shelter currently shelters families at two locations in Athens. To support these families, AAHS is seeking grocery items and volunteers to help deliver grocery items to these families. Athens Community Council on Aging (Athens)
Athens Community Council on Aging is expanding its Meals on Wheels program during this time to deliver both food and essential commodities to our neighbors in need. To meet the demand, ACCA is in need of financial support, toilet paper, and cleaning supplies. Additionally, you can write notes of encouragement or even create a piece of art for seniors who are home-bound and craving human connection. These letters can be delivered to ACCA during normal business hours. Donations are also needed to help extend programming during this time.
East Athens Development Corporation (Athens)
Keep the EADC healthcare trainees and former trainees in your thoughts! Many of these individuals are serving on the front-line of service during the coronavirus pandemic.
Mercy Health Center (Athens)
Keep the staff at Mercy Health Center in your thoughts as they work hard to extend patient care to the under-served and under-insured in our community.
Our Daily Bread (Athens)
Our Daily Bread Community Kitchen is continuing to provide meals for our neighbors during this crisis during regular breakfast and lunch hours. Please support Our Daily Bread through direct donation or by volunteering your time.
Our House (DeKalb)
Consider making an online donation to Our House. Your gift will ensure they maintain supplies and continue service to children and families impacted by homelessness in DeKalb County. You can also donate supplies from their Amazon wish list. Contact Marquez Allen to schedule an onsite delivery.
