Art in the Park is a series of art events and installations in the Watkinsville Woods city park sponsored by the City of Watkinsville with support from the Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation (OCAF). Creature Comforts is thrilled to partner with the City of Watkinsville and OCAF to present the summer 2019 installment with The Broadside Exhibition Project.
Organized by Get Artistic, The Broadside Exhibition Project is an annual showcase of original illustrated poems by curated pairs of visual artists and poets. Now in its second year, The Broadside Exhibition Project: Verse 2 showcases eight works of art with the originals exhibited in the CCBC Gallery at Creature Comforts’ downtown Athens taproom and reproductions displayed in Watkinsville Woods, just outside of downtown Watkinsville. One-part gallery show, one-part public art project, the 2019 exhibition includes the following artists (listed first) and poets:
May Hitchings & Grace Donnelly
Christopher Ingham & Meredith Elder
Savannah Jensen & Savannah Guenthner
Abby Kacen & Mariah Parker
Jackie Kirsche & Lisa Smartt
Gunnar Tarsa & Wesley Peebles
Abigail West & Lindsay Troutman
Chris Xavier & Paul Cunningham
The eight works of art are located along the interconnected trails of the small park, with the majority around the Spring Loop and some on the Upper and South Loops. The park entrance is located at 57 Jackson Terrace (note: cars must turn from Jackson Street onto Jackson Terrace, as the Jackson St. turn from Harden Hill Rd. is limited to pedestrians only). Please refer to the map at the park entrance and the signposts throughout the park to find your way.
