Since opening our doors in 2014, we’ve believed in the power of business to be a force for good. Seven years later, we’re proud to announce that Creature Comforts is a certified B Corporation.

B Corporations (or “B Corps”) are for-profit companies that use the power of business to build a more inclusive and sustainable economy. They meet the highest verified standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. Currently, there are more than 4,000 B Corps in 153 industries and 77 countries around the world.

Creature Comforts is now the 2nd B Corp in Athens and the 17th in the state of Georgia. And amongst America’s more than 8,000 breweries, only 15 are certified B Corps. We bring that count up to 16!

“We’ve always been deeply committed to the wellbeing of our employees, our communities, and our planet. But once we unpacked the rigorous standards of B Corp certification a few years back, we knew we had discovered the benchmark by which we wanted to measure our impact moving forward,” Matt Stevens, Director of Strategic Impact said.

We achieved B Corp certification, in part, as a result of our sustainability efforts. For instance, our decision to shift our supply chain to source local wheat from Dayspring Farms to use in our year-round brands. Moving away from our original Canadian wheat supplier to a neighboring farm reduces transportation emissions, adds resiliency to our supply chain, and increases the dollars circulating in our local economy.

This certification stems from our community initiatives. For the past seven years, we’ve partnered with our local university and government to develop Get Comfortable—a novel approach to community development that has been recognized, researched, and replicated.

And it comes from our employee experience. We do all we can to pour into our employees’ financial, physical, professional, and social wellbeing through generous benefits, the payment of a living wage, professional development opportunities, and more.

“Going through the B Corp certification process is not an easy feat. Obtaining this status is difficult for all the right reasons and that’s why we wanted to put the time and energy behind it,” Ally Hellenga, Community Manager, said. “Throughout our certification journey, we recognized some of Creature’s ‘superpowers’ and also areas that need attention. For us, B Corp status isn’t just a logo and a declaration, it’s a road map forward.”

As a B Corp, we’ll continue to use beer as a force for good all the way from our supply chain to our customers.

“We talk about our values of Making It Better and Leaving a Legacy; B Corp certification will help to ensure that both remain top of mind.” Stevens said.

We couldn’t be more proud to join the B Corp community and we can’t wait to share a beer with you in celebration!
